They wanted to help me with my pain.

Sherman Alexie
About This Quote

When people try to help you, they often do so with the best intentions. But sometimes, those intentions can go awry and you might be left feeling alienated and confused. For example, a counselor may try to help you overcome your drug addiction by telling you to stop using drugs. Feeling helpless, you agree and promise that you will never use drugs again.

However, as time goes on, you find yourself having a harder and harder time staying clean. This is what happened to one man who tried to help his wife with her depression by telling her she wasn't depressed. He was just trying to help her but he ended up contributing to her pain instead of helping her.
